Soprano, Alexandra Armantrading, most recently made her European debut in Rolle, Switzerland, singing contemporary opera excerpts under the baton of Maestro Kent Nagano, with the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra. She is thrilled to return this summer to Festival Napa Valley, singing in recital with esteemed Baritone Lester Lynch. This will be her first time back to Napa, since her debut with the Festival in the summer of ’22, singing three world premiere art songs composed by Jake Heggie (the morning after), Jack Perla (triad), and Luna Pearl Woolf (Journey), set to poetry by Lisa Delan. You may have recently heard Ms. Armantrading as a soloist in Milhaud’s L’homme et son desír, at Mills College under the baton of Maestro Nicole Paiement.
Praised for the ”shimmering Nordic quality” of her voice, and “evocative” presence as a performer, Alexandra has been cast in such roles as Amelia in Ballo in Maschera, Elettra in Idomeneo, the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, and Strauss' titular heroines Ariadne auf Naxos and Arabella. A true spinto, Alexandra is currently preparing the Verdi Requiem, Beethoven's 9th, and Strauss' stunning Vier Letzte Lieder for concert debuts.
Fascinated by the world of recording, Alexandra earned her first Associate Session Producer credit working on the film soundtrack for the opera film Goodbye, Mr. Chips, with music composed by Gordon Getty.
Alexandra continues to study under the tutelage of the esteemed master teacher, Jane Randolph.
In her spare time, Alexandra enjoys learning new languages, traveling with her friends, golfing, and spending time with her opera singing dog, Charlie.
